Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus our Lord,
Happy New Year and multiplied Mercy to you all from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ! As we close the year of 2006, our hearts are filled with gratitude and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ. This past year has marked our tenth year on the field and we are rejoicing in God's goodness and faithfulness! At the time of this writing we are just about a week away from the departure date for our furlough. On January 9 we will be landing in Los Angeles and beginning our travels around the U.S. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Beside the activity of preparing to leave, we have tried to finish strong here. About a month ago Anna brought a friend over by the name of Agata (a fisherman's wife) who prayed to receive Christ in our living room. Several months prior she had called out to God in her own way telling him that she wanted to know him and what the truth was. She was very joyful and at peace to finally know that she had the Son and therefore had life. I Jn. 5:11-13. She came back the next day eager for a time of follow up. With her was Franca and her daughter Patrizia (fishermen's wives) who had come to our home on earlier occasions to talk about spiritual things. They are studying with the JW's but not convinced. The lesson went well and Agata understood what happens to a new believer in Christ. We were very sad to hear just a few days later that Agata could no longer study the Bible with us or come to church. We were told that her husband forbid her. Pray for her and also for Franca, Patrizia, Giovanna and their families that there will be more open doors with them and for their salvation.
Three others have called upon the name of the Lord to be saved. A Romanian lady named Florica, an elderly lady named Antonina (this is the wife of Leonardo Asaro a former swordfish fisherman who was saved last year) and a very poor man here in town named Mario whom I had witnessed to many times before but he was not ready. This man at one time was a captain of a fishing ship here in Mazara, but because of the curse of drinking he lost his family and his job. Pray for these that they will be nurtured in the Lord in our absence. The Pipitone family has visited off and on in services and have brought a family with them. Pray for Graziano and Lucia and family for continued open doors and salvation.
We carolled as usual during the Christmas season at the shopping center in Strasatti. Tracts were well received although we are noticing that as the materialism here increases that people are more distracted in general than they used to be. Janet had been silently praying for an open door to witness to a young woman name Francesca who runs a furniture store. After several attempts to get a conversation of small talk going with her it seemed like there was just no open door. About a half hour later Francesca approached me and wanted to know what we believe and what the difference was between Catholicism and what we believe. We were very grateful that she was able to hear the gospel that evening. Pray for fruit in days to come for the different store owners who we have gotten to know over the years and have heard the truth and received tracts. These folks are all so kind to us and always eager to help us load and unload the van and set up. They know that we will not accept any offerings so they want to give us gifts. They usually give us Christmas cakes and sometimes merchandise from their stores. This year one of them gave Janet a winter coat. Obviously we do not go to obtain anything from them but they would be very offended if we did not accept their gifts so we do so in hopes that they will receive THE GIFT. We are touched by their kindness and really want to see them saved. Pray with us for them and all those who stopped to listen and receive tracts. Nino, Pietro, Giuseppe, and Pizzo and the many employees.
We are very grateful to the Jordans who have made monthly trips here to Mazara to acquaint themselves with the work here and who will be filling in for us while we are gone. Pray for them as they hold the fort, especially for Sis. Linda who is having trouble with her knee. Please send any regular mail correspondence to the support address below. We will be in the U.S. until early December 2007. While in the States I can be contacted at the following email address: salgalioto@juno.com or the email address listed below.
In closing we ask you to pray for travelling mercies from Sicily to LA and also while we travel. Also for spiritual and physical protection for all our family and that luggage will arrive safely with us. Thank you for your prayers for the motorhome, we have located one right in LA. Please continue in prayer for the ministry here especially for the growth of the converts and salvation for those whom we have mentioned in previous letters. Looking forward to seeing many of you and and we hope to be a blessing as well. In Christ,
Bro. Sal Galioto and Family
